The final performance of the 2010 Piano! Festival was by the fabulous (and incredibly tall!) Garrick Ohlsson. Garrick’s awesome talent was obvious from the moment his hands touched the keys. Featuring an all-Chopin program, Garrick’s performance was loved by all, including The Age reviewer Clive O’Connell who gave it 4 and a half stars. A notable (but maybe not quotable) quote is when Clive said ‘Ohlsson has impressive technical facility, not just capable in the clinches but blazingly competent to the point where you quickly assume firm trust in his negotiation of dangerous passages, tests that most other pianists struggle through’.
For all those who were wondering, Garrick’s second encore (because one was definitely not enough) was Rachmaninov’s Prelude in C# minor.
