This week will see the musicians of the Academy rehearse and perform alongside tenor Steve Davislim, soprano Sara Mcliver, former faculty member violinist Paul Wright and current cello faculty member Howard Penny in a week of featuring the oh-so-wonderful compositions of Handel, Mozart and Rebel.
You may have heard a bit of Mozart and Handel BUT do you know Jean-Féry Rebel? Born in 1666, he composed Les Elements in 1737 ten years before his death. Rebel’s work ain’t your average 17th century, harpsichordy delight, but a passionate and powerful depiction of the world’s creation (with a dash of harpsichord on the side). The Orchestra of the Academy will be performing Les Elements this Friday night at the South Melbourne Town Hall.
