Recently, a group of ANAM musicians had the thrill of working with iconic singer/songwriter Paul Kelly in a workshop for his latest song cycle collaboration, Conversations with Ghosts. Based on the texts of Les Murray, W.B. Yeats and Lord Alfred Tennyson, Kelly is joined by recorder virtuoso Genevieve Lacey, ANAM Musicians and ANAM’s 2011 resident composer James Ledger in presenting this wonderful program, which will be held at the Melbourne Recital Centre as part of Melbourne Festival in October.
ANAM Musician Georgia Ioakimidis-MacDougall (french horn), has loved being a part of the workshops. She says, “Working collaboratively with James, Paul and Gen has been rewarding. Being able to observe and be involved in the creative process gives a unique insight in to how we can approach our own projects down the line”.
ANAM staff who were present for the latest workshop were still buzzing with excitement days later, partly due to the stunning songs they had heard in rehearsal, and partly because they had been in the same room as Paul Kelly. (ANAM really is a fun place to be..)
Conversations With Ghosts will be performed in Sydney at Capitol Theatre on Wednesday 10 October and at the Melbourne Recital Centre as part of the Melbourne Festival on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th October at 8pm.
