For the third year running, ANAM will be having an Open Day held on Sunday 19 August .  In previous years, ANAM hosted it’s own Open Day, but this year, we have collaborated with our creative friends in Emerald Hill (the place where the South Melbourne Town Hall sits) which include the Australian Tapestry Workshop, Arts Access Victoria, Auspicious Arts Incubator, Boon Wurrung Foundation, Butterfly Club, Emerald Hill Library and Multicultural Arts Victoria.

As always, we will  host a wide variety of children’s programs which will include interactive musical experiences, open rehearsals, meet the instruments and an immersive orchestral experience.  Find details below:

10:30 & 11:30 The Show
An interactive musical experience for kids aged 4-8.  Join our musical warriors as they try to stop Muza stealing all the music in the world.  Help the musicians find their one true sound and along way learn about pitch, rhythm and melody. Bookings essential, capacity limited to 30 children per session.

11:30-12:30 Peter and the Wolf
An immersive orchestral experience aimed at children ages 8+ (but suitable for everyone).  Bookings encouraged

12:30 & 2:30 Meet the Instruments
Get up close to the instruments of the orchestra and the musicians who play them. No bookings required.

1:00 Nielson Quintet – Meet the Instruments
Become familiar with the instruments of a wind quintet through this iconic piece of repertoire. No bookings required.

1:45 Double Bass Storytime at the Australian Tapestry Workshop
‘Little Sad Sound’ is the story of a lost sound trying to find his way.  ‘Romance with the Double Bass’ is the cheeky story of a hot day, a skinny-dip and a big dilemma! No bookings required.

3:00 The Big Play
Members of the community (young and old) are invited to  join the ANAM orchestra for a play-through of Verdi’s famous overture La Forza del Destino, conducted under the baton of ANAM Artstic Director, Paul Dean.  Bring you instrument and become and honorary member of the ANAM orchestra! Registrations essential.

To register, call ANAM on (03) 9645 7911
