Alexina Hawkins is an Australian violist currently based in Berlin. She gained a Bachelor’s degree at the School of Music, Australian National University (2008-11), and held a scholarship at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) between 2012-13. During her time at these institutions she was awarded prizes and scholarships recognising solo and chamber music performance. These included the Erika Haas Award, Kate Buchdahl Prize and first prize in the Friends’ Chamber Music Competition (ANU), the Georgina Grosvenor Scholarship, the prize for Best Program in a Solo Recital and the John and Rosemary Macleod Travelling Scholarship (with Petrichor) at ANAM.

In 2015, Alexina is a Fellow at the Australian National Academy of Music and will direct three concerts, premiering three pieces featuring the viola in addition to existing works from a range of eras.

 

She met up with Brett Dean in Berlin and recorded this interview with him.
